Illinois Open Meetings Act (OMA) Training for Township Officials

The Metropolitan Township Association is offering an Illinois Open Meetings Act (OMA) training program for elected and appointed township officials, presented by Mark J. Kimzey, Township Attorney.

This training is designed to satisfy the annual OMA training requirement for township officials under recently amended Illinois law, which permits compliance through a course sponsored or conducted by an organization representing townships created under the Township Code.

The program provides a clear and practical overview of OMA requirements, including open and closed meetings, quorum and notice rules, recordkeeping obligations, and the penalties for noncompliance. The training emphasizes the practical application of OMA to township governance, focusing on common meeting scenarios, compliance pitfalls, and best practices for conducting meetings efficiently while minimizing risk.

Participants who complete the training will receive a certificate of completion for compliance documentation purposes.
