July Virtual Training: Next Level Communications & Outreach

Is your Township looking to step it up a with your outreach and how you engage with your community? Are there blind spots in how you effectively communicate with your residents? Let’s talk about it! A panel of Township communicators will discuss different opportunities your organization can take advantage of in taking your communications and outreach to the next level by addressing negative comments on social media, monitoring and responding to Google Reviews, developing leads and partners, creating community events that stand out, and more.

Meet the Panel:

Katy Trent is the Director of Community Relations at the Township of Schaumburg. Before entering local government communications, she worked in corporate public relations and as a collegiate communications instructor.

Tom Kuttenberg is the Director of Community & Government Relations at Hanover Township. He also serves as President of the Township Communicators of Illinois and is on the Membership Committee for the Government Social Media Professional Association. Tom is an Eagle Scout, an enthusiast of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and cheered for Loyola Basketball before it was cool.

Melissa Bukovatz began her career with Leyden Township in 2013. She is currently the Director of Community Relations. Melissa also serves as the Vice President of Administration for Township Communicators of Illinois, and sits on the board for the Leyden Community Food Pantry, Northlake Area Kiwanis Club and the Rotary Club of Chicago-O’Hare. In 2024, Melissa was appointed to the Cook County Commission on Women’s Issues representing Cook County Commissioner Sean Morrison and the 17th District. She also received an Emerging Women Leader award, nominated by State Representative Brad Stephens.
